- TRUCK DRIVERS OPERATING AROUND TRANS-AMADI AXIS, ATTACKED AND KILLED A MEMBER OF THE RVSG TASK FORCE ON ILLEGAL STREET TRADING, MARKETS, MOTOR PARKS AND MECHANICS.
The Rivers State Government Task Force on Illegal Street Trading, Markets, Motor Parks and Mechanics condemned the attack that lead to the death of it’s personnel named Mr. PROMISE OLIGBU ORDU also known as “ORIJA” who was beaten to death during the early hours of yesterday by some northern (hausa) truck drivers operating around Trans-Amadi axis.
The Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Rivers State/Coordinator of the Rivers State Government task force on illegal street trading, markets, motor parks and mechanics, CHIEF HON. BRIGHT CHIKWERU AMEWHULE JP, who addressed newsmen regarding the incident, frowned and expressed sadness following the death of his task force member and added that his men has suffered several attacks from truck drivers, illegal street traders, taxi/tricycle drivers and hoodlums etc since the inception of the task force and that he has raised alarm on different occasions, notified members of the public, Police and other Security Agencies, regarding the attacks on task force members. But, that, it’s unfortunate they lost one of their member during yesterday’s attack.
He also briefed newsmen on yesterday attack that lead to the death of Mr. PROMISE ORDU, saying that at about 2:00pm, he lead his team members of the Rivers State Government task force on a patrol monitoring the activities within the state and ensuring that garden city returns to it’s normal status as mandated by the state government, but along the line they discovered that some truck drivers particularly northerners (hausas) has blocked government roads with their trucks which was seriously causing obstruction of human and vehicular movements within the area, but, on the process to know the reason for the blockage, immediately some large number of hausa truck drivers and hoodlums came out from their hideouts and launched attack on him and members of the task force, but on the process they brutally murdered one of his men. And, the painful part was that he was beaten to death.
Chief Bright, on behalf the RVSG Task Force called on the Rivers State Government, Commissioner of Police, Department for States Security (DSS) and other Security Agencies to properly investigate the matter and he used same medium to inform the general public on the recent incident, also stated that the hausas who operates in the state has no regard for Rivers States Government, but has total respect and obeys government laws and order in their various states, but has failed to apply same in Rivers State.
He also assured members of the public that the task force has no intention to harm them and will never do so while carry out their duties in the state.
Hon. Amewhule, disclosed, that the task force was constituted to bring sanity in the state and for everyone residing and doing business in the state to be law abiding.
