COVID-19: We’ll use 14-day containment period to isolate confirmed cases –Buhari

The Federal Government has announced plans to use the mandatory 14-day restriction of movement in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states to track and isolate confirmed coronavirus cases in the country.

Addressing the nation in his national broadcast on Sunday, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) said the aim was to ensure proper treatment of confirmed cases, while restricting further spread of the virus to other states.

“We will use this containment period to identify, trace and isolate all individuals that have come into contact with confirmed cases.

“We will ensure the treatment of confirmed cases, while restricting further spread to other states,” he said.

As of March 29, there have been 97 confirmed cases and one death in the country since the index case of COVID-19 was first reported on February 27.

Buhari, who spoke during a live presidential address, also declared a restriction of movement for a period of 14 days in Lagos and Ogun states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
