A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governorship Candidate in Imo State in the 2019 general elections, Uche Nwosu, on Friday said that he does not regret his role in canvassing support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in the Southeast zone.
He said that that single decision to back the President in the 2019 Presidential election, still remains best political calculation that will brighten the chances of producing a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.
According to Nwosu who briefed journalists in Abuja on the fifth anniversary of the Buhari’s administration, noted that even though they were reports of lopsided appointments, the President has not left out the Southeast in terms of projects, which he said were more important to the zone than appointments.
He however counselled the Igbo to reconcile their political differences with other geo-political zones to assist their ambition of producing the Nigerian President in 2023.
Nwosu observed that the zone cannot succeed in 2023 except it builds a solid bridge across the six geo political zones of the country, noting that “politics is a game of number”.
He noted that the chances of Ndigbo producing the next President is very high, so long as they do the needful by forging alliances among other ethnic nationalities.
The APC Chieftain, reiterated that Buhari’s Presidency is the shortest way to Igbo Presidency.
He however, faulted argument in certain quarters that Igbo are marginalised in the current administration in terms of federal appointments, arguing that government presence in the southeast far out wares political appointments.
“During the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Igbos were favoured in appointments more than any other zones, yet they were worse off in terms of government presence. Today the Southeast are supposedly marginalised in terms of appointment, but there are remarkable projects the incumbent administration is executing in the zone which of course are more important than political appointments. For instance, the construction of second Niger Bridge; the remodelling of Enugu and Imo state Cargo airports, Enugu Port Harcourt express way amongst several others,” he explained.
While noting that it is too early to start discussing the politics of 2013 as this is time for governance, Nwosu said that no one should be denied the opportunity of producing president of Nigeria in the interest of natural justice, equity and good conscience.
The former governorship candidate however scored the current administration high in the areas of security and agriculture.
He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari has done well in the anti-corruption war and this has changed global.impression about the country, also in the area of agriculture, Nigeria has moved away from importing agro produce to exporting rics and other produce. In the area of insurgency, the President has retaken every part of this country from terrorist groups.
“Having said this, I can say firmly that President Muhammadu Buhari, has delivered on his promises, but he needs to do more in the area of youth Empowermen and job creation in the next three years”.
He nonetheless, tasked Pesident Muhhammadu Buhari to refocus his youth Empowerment efforts to curb youth unemployment and creativeness in the country.
