Man United ‘serious’ about signing – Have made ‘first offer’, now ready to reach ‘dizzying figures’ – 11th June, 2020

Three days ago, Sport reported Manchester United’s interest in Barcelona’s Ansu Fati.

Today’s edition of the same newspaper states the Red Devils are ‘very serious’ about the 17-year-old.

It’s claimed Borussia Dortmund were ‘most interested’ in the winger as they viewed him as a potential successor for Jadon Sancho. However, the Bundesliga side failed to ‘reach an agreement’.

United’s interest came through Jorge Mendes, the super-agent who maintains good relations with the teenager’s immediate surroundings.

Sport add the Old Trafford club made a ‘first offer’ of €100m for the Spain U21 international, but it was turned down by the La Liga winners. According to the report, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are now willing to reach ‘dizzying figures’ to sign him.

Barca have made it clear the player is ‘non-transferable’, unless he and his camp decide to pay the €170m release clause.

Fati has seen his first team opportunities restricted since February and his camp is of the belief his time with the lower categories of the club is finished. They are waiting for a gesture from his employer over his future and this means wanting assurances from the Catalan club over regular playing time.

Barcelona’s idea is to offer him a new deal, which will see the youngster see a rise in his salary and his buyout clause increased to €400m.

Sport believe this gesture from the club should satisfy Fati, who is waiting for more minutes next season, despite the impending arrival of Lautaro Martínez from Inter Milan.

Manchester United are waiting to take advantage of this ‘impasse’ with the help of Mendes, according to the claims.

The report adds Fati could triple his wages if he moves to United and it’s ‘necessary to see how far they go’ to get him out of Barca.

There could be interest from United in Fati, but the possibility of his camp taking advantage to get better deal and assurances over regular playing from Barca, cannot be ruled out.

Indeed, it either looks like that, or the Catalan media trying to hype Barca’s latest young star.
