President Muhammadu Buhari says he has listened to all demands of the #EndSARS protesters, adding that his administration has started to implement some of their requests.
The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, quoted the President while speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting with the Nigerian leader in Aso Rock on Monday afternoon.
According to the minister, Buhari also appealed to the protesters to give the Federal Government time to address their demands, saying that the Presidential Panel set up on Police Brutality has immediately started working.
The President promised that he will ensure that the reforms promised are met and long-lasting, saying that the reforms will deliver for the country a Police Force that Nigerians will be proud of.
Dare noted that the President reiterated that the Nigerian youths have the right to protest peacefully while making demands of their leaders.
He added that the right of the youths will not be infringed upon by men of the Nigerian Police Force, noting that any police officer that has in one way or the other attacked any protesters be brought to book.
The President, however, advised the protesters to be wary of unscrupulous elements who would want to hijack their movement to cause violence and chaos in the country.
“President Buhari appreciates the fact that they have brought the SARS issues to the fore through their peaceful protest.
“He recognizes the fact that they have called upon the government to do what is necessary and that as the President and a father, he will make sure that the demands as put forward are met.
“The President said that as far as he is concerned, it’s important to allow the younger generation to exercise the freedom to protest and make sure that such protest is in a peaceful manner,” the Minister quoted the President as saying.
